A radical balm to reduce teen suicide: Acts of kindness

After decades of consoling suicidal teens and grieving families, a rabbi discovered a powerful 1961 correspondence between a struggling college student and the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Schneerson. Rather than offering comfort alone, the Rebbe urged the teen to find meaning through giving and responsibility—an approach that saved the young man’s life and is now echoed by modern psychological research on resilience and purpose.
