An affordable housing project uses its faith-based history to grow into the future

Harborlight Homes, a nonprofit that began in 1962 as a Beverly Baptist congregation’s housing ministry, has grown into the North Shore’s largest affordable housing developer, creating more than 800 units and managing a $285 million real estate portfolio. Despite steep challenges from high costs and restrictive zoning, Harborlight has expanded through mergers, advocacy, and careful mission-focused scaling, while still honoring its church-rooted ethos of community care. Today, it continues to balance growth with fidelity to its original calling: providing safe, affordable housing for those most in need.
