In L.A., Protesters Practice the Politics of Jesus

During recent events in Los Angeles, the federal government’s militarized response to immigration protests—including ICE raids, National Guard deployments, and police violence—has reflected a broader politics of domination rooted in fear and control. In contrast, many local residents and institutions have responded with a politics of care, protecting vulnerable communities and affirming the dignity of all people. From a Christian perspective, this moment calls for a complete rejection of domination and a recommitment to care, which means meeting others’ needs, welcoming the stranger, and even extending compassion to one's enemies.
