As World Refugee Day approaches, we’re reminded of the staggering number of people—an estimated 139 million—who are expected to be displaced by 2025, many of them children. Yet at a time when global displacement is at record highs, recent U.S. policy decisions have halted refugee funding and left thousands of already-approved refugees in limbo. As a person of faith, I believe we are called to respond with compassion and action—welcoming the stranger isn’t just a humanitarian act, it’s a sacred one rooted in our deepest values.
