Over the past several posts, we, the team, as shared by Nell Green of The Off Ramp, have shared glimpses from our team’s journey to Uganda—a trip that began with canceled flights, mountains of luggage, and a long trek from Virginia to Kampala. What started as a travel adventure quickly turned into a story of resilience, friendship, and renewed purpose. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth by our partners at Refuge and Hope, setting the tone for the days ahead.
A Time for Healing and Renewal
At the retreat, women from different faith and cultural backgrounds gathered for a time of rest, reflection, and restoration. Through conversations, creativity, and community, they found space to process trauma and rediscover hope. The time together reminded us how healing grows in circles of belonging—when stories are heard, gifts are shared, and laughter breaks through pain.
Back with Sewing for Hope
Returning to the women of Sewing for Hope was one of the greatest joys of the trip. There were hugs, cheers, and excitement as we reconnected and began new lessons in pattern-making and perseverance. These women continue to embody strength and creativity, turning fabric into opportunity and hardship into growth. Each stitch tells a story of resilience and faith in the future.
Gratitude and Goodbyes
As the journey came to a close, gratitude overflowed—for the friendships rekindled, the lessons learned, and the shared vision that connects us across oceans. From the first hectic travel day to the last tearful goodbye, this trip was a vivid reminder of why we do what we do: to walk alongside those building new lives, to learn from their strength, and to carry that spirit of hope home with us.
