A recent Religion News Service article by Bob Smietana looks at how women pastors have become a central point of conflict in the Southern Baptist Convention. While the SBC has long taught that only men should serve as pastors, the article shows how the issue has recently become more urgent and more publicly enforced, with efforts to exclude churches that affirm women in pastoral roles.
At The Welcome Table, we believe with conviction that the Spirit gives gifts freely, without regard to gender, sex, or identity. We are a community where women’s voices, leadership, wisdom, and calling are not only welcomed, but encouraged and celebrated. More broadly, we seek to be a community where all people are invited to share the gifts God has placed within them. We are deeply grateful for the women who have served and continue to serve this community, sharing their wisdom, care, creativity, leadership, and many gifts with us all.
