What LGBTQ+ Folks Teach Us About Kinship

In this Faith & Leadership article, Mihee Kim-Kort argues that church conversations about LGBTQ+ people often stop at “welcome” or “inclusion,” when the deeper work is learning from LGBTQ+ communities and expanding our understanding of kinship, family, intimacy, and belonging. The article explores how churches can move beyond simply making space for people and instead ask what it means to build communities where people can truly flourish.

Kim-Kort also invites churches to examine the limits of purity culture, assimilation, and narrow definitions of family. It’s a thoughtful and challenging piece for anyone interested in how Christian communities can become more honest, just, and life-giving.
